The C Word!
Yes indeed, Christmas is approaching fast and if you feel like taking your mind off the worry of ‘Will I remember to order a turkey or will I be cruising the aisles of the local Supermarket at 7.30am on Christmas Eve looking to waylay a smug shopper who has had the foresight to pre-order their bird in October?’ then read on. If not, then stop reading now and go and put your sprouts on to boil.
Well, Northgate and Kesgrave karate clubs were once again delighted to have Davin Pack 4th Dan (Current England International, 15 times English Champion, British Gold Medallist 9 times and several international titles to his name – I know, what have the rest of us been doing?) putting us through our paces on Sunday the 21st of October. We had a fantastic session (insert your own smutty innuendo here!) focussing mainly on perfecting (OK improving slightly) our reverse punches. So many thanks to Davin for sharing his expertise with us.
There is a pre-grading session on the 1st of December at Northgate Sports Centre from 2-4pm. These sessions are really useful to attend, even if you aren’t thinking of grading, as there are usually several black belts on hand to offer advice and small group training.
However, if you are an orange belt or above, and you are thinking of grading, then it is essential that you attend the Saturday morning kata classes held at the Kesgrave Church Hall from 10am onwards. This is a whole hour spent focussing on kata and you can be confident that you will be closely observed and any minor flaws picked up and rectified by Chris, Josh and Steve (sounds daunting I know, but a stroll in the park compared to living with my children, where my minor flaws are picked up on, on an hourly basis).
The grading itself is on Saturday 22nd of December (perhaps next year it will be on Christmas Day itself!) from 2 - 5pm at Northgate. Please arrive by 1.30 to allow time to book in and allow for a prompt start at 2.00pm.
There is a new website - www.northgate-karate.co.uk (very similar to the old one!) to keep you posted about class times and competition dates.
All that remains is for me to resist the temptation to list all my O level results (See Davin, I have been doing something too! No doubt I’ll find out he has a PhD in Quantum Physics to boot!) and wish everybody a Very Happy Christmas and New Year.
